This is the first of 3 tarot lessons I will be doing…This is for beginners, and when I say beginners, I mean we don’t even get into actually performing the tarot ritual yet. I want to make sure nobody jumps to it without knowing EXACTLY what they’re doing. In this lesson, you learn the bare minimums…things like what tarot is, what you can do with it, what it is for, and where it is believed to come from. The order of lessons will be Beginners (The history, what it’s used for), Intermediates (About the deck, what the cards mean), and then Masters (Actually performing the ritual, communicating the results). Remember that tarot, like most things in life, gets better with practice. Your skills and your accuracy will increase once you’ve tried this for a while. I’d give it 3-4 months before you become seemingly accurate. Tarot, like most divination practices, is very complex. Dont be discouraged if it seems to difficult.
Thousands of years? I think not….

I’m not bashing Wicca or any religions here, but you are giving a one sided representation of peoples culture here. There is no mention of the fact that people have also played games with tarot cards and the games are still played in many European countries. As a game player, I’m critical of how some tarot readers stereotype this cultural artifact by presenting a one sided aspect of it.

The Xs are generally used on sample art, where you have to pay to have a full res version without the X in the way.

Vid kinda caught me at the part about how more Major Arcana cards means things are more or less out of my control.
Heh hurts more when I got a lot of M.Arcana cards AND Wheel of Fortune. My interpretation of the wheel is a turn of fortune, may be good or bad, but not in your control. And I”m not the most flexible person.
What is with the X over the flames?

Notice the 6 thumbs downs. Yes, be respectful.
No reason why everyone should continue bashing other people’s religions (or lack of religion). Too many wars in the past about it as it is.

I think you’re starting to get it. It’s yin and yang! I don’t care for the tarot community because it’s full of yes people. YES will be the downfall of tarot divination. YES is like a drug. You can overdose on it. The flag of NO needs to be raised to restore balance. YES kills! YES is the cancer and AIDS of tarot

It is not my belief, the evidence tells us that tarot cards were made for game playing. Spade, Diamonds etc are modern playing card suits. Some tarot cards also have those suit signs. There are also Spanish playing cards with suit signs of coins cups etc like the marseille tarot decks. The “minor arcana” suit are really old playing card suits! Yes, my comments were harsh but is it good to have false tarot history everywhere? Bad tarot history is a rape of people’s card games.

…Please, do not come to my videos stating your opinion in such a harsh way. Please respect my beliefs even if our beliefs clash like ying and yang. I will not disrespect you, and hopefully you will not continue to disrespect me. Your comment was not only disrespectful to my video, but also to others here on my videos and to the Wiccan religion. May ye be blessed if you go around Youtube bashing other religions other than Wicca, because that’s truly a nasty habit..
Blessed Be )O(

Even though what you believe in tells you that Tarot is a card game, many people have adopted this practice to be used as a tool in divination. For example, playing cards (the deck of the Spades, Diamonds, etc..the most common today) originated in 9th Century China. They were originally meant to represent a paper currency. Today, most of us know nothing of this and continue to use these cards as regular playing cards, and for some even cool card tricks…

According to a bio written by Barry M. Taylor. Back in the 60’s Dummett read in an occult book how Tarot games were played in central Europe. It made him curious and on a later trip to France, he discovered the Tarot deck used for the game of Tarot which has the suit signs of the poker deck. This inspired him to do further research on the topic.

Do you know what was his interest in such a particular subjet?
Left by scopein79 on March 22nd, 2010
Yes. Although Dummett is primarily known for his work in philosophy especially as a scholar of Frege, he’s done quite a bit of substantial work on the history of Tarot.

Hi,
Are you here talking about Michael Dummett the philosopher?
Left by scopein79 on March 23rd, 2010
Lol your not understanding where I’m coming from. This video is about using Tarot as a tool, not learning the history on Tarot. That is like going to English class, and then learning the history on how the first book was invented. Even though I see what you mean, history is important, at the same time, what is the point arguing where they came from when people are here to see how to use them in Divination. Now if someone wanted to know its history, that’s when I’d start lecturing, lol. BB.

I have no problems with divination or with Wicca. However the lack of respect for history is something to which I object. Like all too many Tarot videos on Youtube, I think you’re giving to much weight to so-called “theories” which have been debunked by both A.E. Waite and Michael Dummett.
Left by Oudler on March 26th, 2010
Well, perhaps I can just close this whole thing with this: This video is a WICCAN video. We WICCANS use tarot cards as TOOLS OF DIVINATION, not games. Am I saying games are silly? No. Am I saying your theory on them originally being used for games is untrue? No. Am I saying that Wiccans originated Tarot? No. But I am saying that regardless of whether they were used as games or not, this particular video catagorizes them as tools…

Tarot cards are mostly marketed to a narrow new age spiritual demo. As a result, in English speaking countries, Tarot has become ghetto-ized. Tarot cards are capable of appealing to a more broader audience if people knew they are also used for games.
Left by Oudler on March 27th, 2010
If you think Oudler that Tarot is only confined these days to a kind of ghetto than you do not know the people your trying to persuade and will have little if no luck marketing whatever it is your selling…
Left by Oreceo on March 29th, 2010
I would like Tarot cards to become more fully integrated into our culture in the same manner in which they are a part of European culture. If Tarot is to be sold outside of what we call “the Tarot community” then we should be upfront about the use of these cards for games. I have found that most people become interested in the cards when they also find out about the games. The prevailing business model of Tarot is only confining these cards to a kind of ghetto.
